    William Peace University, a vibrant and diverse independent institution in Raleigh, NC and a 2017 Best Places to Work in the Triangle, seeks applicants for a Chief Human Resources Officer / Executive Director of Human Resources.  Reporting to the Vice President for Administration / CFO, the ideal candidate will be eager for the opportunity to focus on the employee experience while maintaining compliance for federal, state, and University policies.  The position serves as key human resources and payroll operations leader for the University and provides strategic leadership in planning and implementing quality-based, mission-focused human resources programs for all employees, continually improves human resources systems and ensures the delivery of high quality services to employees in a manner consistent with the vision, mission and values of the University.  This position also serves as the EEO/ADA Officer and the Title IX Committee Chair and is responsible for both the HR operating budget and the University human capital budget, involving strategic workforce planning and management.  The ideal candidate will be innovative at streamlining human resources business processes and training while promoting professional development and growth for employees, possess integrity, be resourceful and take initiative, utilize respectful and open communication, and display an enthusiastic approach to having fun while working hard!  The CHRO will have the ability to implement creative and fresh ideas for employee engagement and new employee onboarding that will continue to support a work environment that recognizes employees are one of our most valued assets.

    The Office of Human Resources also includes three other positions:  Payroll Administrator and Employee Development Specialist, Senior Human Resources Manager, and Human Resources Assistant.  Our office manages workforce planning, equity, and engagement initiatives; policy and procedure development; human capital and HR operational  budgeting; HR internal and external communication; HR information system management and reporting; benefits and work life wellness programs; workplace safety and risk management; employee and management relations; classification and compensation, organizational and professional development, payroll and leave administration, HR records management and digital imaging, HR programming and events, recruitment and staffing, federal and state compliance, and Title IX.

    WPU is under the leadership of Dr. Brian C. Ralph, who assumed office in August, 2015.  The institution is in a season of exciting change and is under a comprehensive strategic plan beginning June 1, 2017.  The selected candidate ideally will have the ability to embrace the five core values of William Peace University:

    The minimum qualifications for this position are:

    • A bachelor’s degree (Business Administration/Management, Industrial and Labor Relations, Human Resource Management, Business Management, Sociology, or related field preferred) with 8-10+ years of increasingly responsible experience as an exempt Human Resources professional or equivalent combination of training and experience
    • Experience in all aspects of Human Resources including, but not limited to, employee and labor relations; compensation and benefits; workforce planning and employment; business management and strategy; policy analysis, development, and implementation; training and development; risk management and compliance; and payroll management
    • Experience with or knowledge of creating and/or managing an operational budget or human capital budget
    • Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal employment laws and governance
    • In depth experience using discretion in handling highly confidential issues and advising senior management on employment and management relations for both faculty and staff areas with the ability to make tough decisions
    • Demonstrated effective collaboration with other human resource professionals and associations
    • Experience with or in-depth knowledge of configuring and designing a Human Resources and Payroll Information System, as well as related project management through the transition
    • Demonstrated ability to lead a successful Human Resources operation and to work and communicate effectively with a diverse workforce of all levels and abilities
    • Hold an SPHR certification

    The preferred but not required qualifications for this position are: 

    • Master’s in Human Resource Management, MBA, or related education
