Pre-Law

William Peace University brings the judicial system to your doorstep. Located just blocks from state and local courts, as well as the General Assembly, where laws are made, WPU pre-law students learn the legal system by working in it every day.

The William Peace University Pre-Law Program consists of inter-disciplinary courses that will help you hone the skills that law schools and the legal profession desire. You will develop your critical thinking, analytical writing and public speaking abilities in the courses.

The Raleigh Experience is an innovative new program putting WPU students in the middle of the exciting world of North Carolina politics. All pre-law majors spend a semester working full time at four different sites related to the law profession. Students fill their contact lists with professional contacts as they spend their final semester of college working in four different full-time internships in the heart of the state capital.

During the senior year, a WPU Pre-Law major will participate in an intensive (40 hours per week) learning experience, similar to a co-op program at other institutions (click here to read our Q&A on co-op at WPU). They will work for sponsoring organizations in three areas related to the law profession, which can include: advocacy/lobbying, governance, law, non-profit administration, politics, policy research, and public administration. During the semester, they will rotate through four, four-week practicums and be concurrently enrolled in their senior seminar course. One session a student might be helping legislators draft bills in the General Assembly. The next they could assist an attorney research as he or she prepares for trial. The Raleigh Experience gives students real skills and results that put them a step ahead of other law school applicants.

And most of these opportunities are within walking distance of our campus. Imagine leaving your dorm, grabbing a coffee on campus and walking to the state legislature to conduct policy research.

The WPU pre-law program offers more than just a top-notch education. It gives students an experience no other school in North Carolina can offer.
