William Peace Theatre empowers students to pursue careers in the fine arts as independent, self-assessing artists.
Our B.A. in Theatre is one of only a few degrees of its kind currently being offered in Raleigh, NC. Our B.A. program features intense specialized curriculums to insure the best possible career training and success. Theatre majors develop strong skills needed to make a mark on the professional world of theatre through focused training and studies in acting, history and technical theatre. Elective courses also give opportunities for students to further study specific interests (B.A. theatre students may take musical theatre courses as electives by permission of instructor).
Our unique theatre programs are led by teachers who have vast professional and academic experience and continue to work in the professional theatre. Students train under an impressive network of faculty and guest artists whose credits include Broadway, Off-Broadway, professional theatre, television, film and radio, as well as strong academic achievements such as publications, research presentations at international conferences and teaching awards. Additionally, students benefit from “outside the classroom” experiences such as required theatre internships (either within our department or an external professional theatre company), annual senior trips to NYC to partake in professional auditions, student-run organizations and study abroad opportunities (such as our 2016 theatre trip to London, England).
Our productions and students have been nominated for various awards over the years, including: Top Ten List by Spectator Magazine, multiple Raleigh News & Observer Top Ten Lists, Acting awards by Roberts Reviews and SPARKcon and consistently ranked and reviewed by the Independent Weekly.
Students have gone on to New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Wilmington and other cities to pursue professional careers in theatre, film and television. WPU alumni have also gone on to study at schools like The Juilliard School, Harvard, American Academy of Dramatic Art and Virginia Commonwealth.
WPU students are fully prepared for graduate school or to step directly into the professional arena of theatre and musical theatre when they graduate. We will help you develop the tools, skills and connections you need to succeed. When you graduate, you will be a confident, marketable, self-assessing artist.
All theatre majors are eligible to audition for theatre scholarships.
Our B.A. in Theatre does not require an audition to be accepted into the program.
