Author to speak at Common Time on Tuesday
Margot Starbuck, author of “The Girl in the Orange Dress,” will speak Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Finch Library in a campuswide “common time” event. The event is scheduled to allow students, faculty and staff to share an event together. Starbuck will read an excerpt from her book, give a brief talk and then answer questions. The presentation and discussion will be followed with light refreshments.  

 

Peace College Dance Company fall concert Thursday through Saturday
The Peace College Dance Company will present their annual Fall Student Choreography Performance Thursday through Saturday. The performances will begin each evening at 7:30 p.m. in Leggett Theatre. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $5 for students, seniors and N.C. Dance Alliance members. Register today for Friday’s Holiday Wine Tasting
Today is the deadline for faculty and staff to sign up today for the Holiday Wine Tasking and Alumnae Boutique planned for Friday. The event will be held in the Lucy Cooper Finch Library beginning at 7 p.m. The event will include five tastings, two full pours, heavy hors d’oeuvres and holiday shopping with 13 alumnae who own their own business or handcraft their own wares. Featured items include handcrafted soaps, boutique clothing, accessories, and jewelry, hand-knit baby items, paper crafts, gift items, and more! The alumnae will contribute a portion of their proceeds to The Loyalty Fund. Faculty/staff and guest cost is $10 per person. Christmas celebration planned for Dec. 8
Faculty, staff, and their families are invited to the Peace College Christmas Celebration on the evening of Tuesday, December 8. Here is the schedule of events that night...
* 4:45 p.m. Dinner in Belk Dining Hall (Faculty and staff please bring your Peace ID to dinner, $5 per guest, children under 12 free)
* 6:30 p.m. Candlelight Chapel Service: Lessons and Carols in Dinwiddie Chapel
* 7:15 p.m. Lighting of the Fountain and Surprise Visit from the North Pole
* 7:30 p.m. SGA’s Cookies and Cocoa Reception in Main Parlor (photographer available for pictures)

Christmas concerts scheduled for Dec. 7, 9
The annual Betty Vaiden Wright Williams Christmas concerts will take place on Monday, Dec. 7, and Wednesday, Dec. 9. The concerts will feature the Peace College Chamber Singers and Choir, and the Peace College Dance Company. Among the choral selections will be several works by 18th century composer Michael Haydn, accompanied by a chamber orchestra. Also on the program are several lighter selections, including “It’s beginning to look like Christmas” and the Austrian carol “Still, Still, Still.” The program will conclude with “Why Can’t We Have Christmas the Whole Year Around,” a version of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” made famous by the folk group “Peter, Paul, and Mary.” The concerts begin each evening at 7 p.m. in Kenan Recital Hall, and are free and open to the public. A reception follows each performance. 

 

Texting while driving ban starts tomorrow
Employees please be aware that starting Tuesday, Dec. 1, it will be illegal to text or read any e-mail message or text messages while driving. Whether using a College-provided mobile phone or a personal one, you are advised to stop or park if you must send or read e-mail or text messages.

 

Sign up for Pacer Alerts for weather notifications, emergencies
Peace offers a text-messaging system to notify members of the campus community of emergencies or other timely news, such as inclement weather announcements. For weather announcements, this system is used in addition to the Inclement Weather Line messages. You must sign up for the Pacer Alert service to receive the text messages, which are sent to text message-capable cell phones. It’s easy to sign up for the alerts. Go either directly to this page -- http://www.peace.edu/content/page/id/560 -- or to Peace’s home page and click on the button that reads “Safety Alerts at Peace.” Have your cell phone with you and follow the instructions to register your phone with the system.
