Faculty Services

Circulation Policies

Faculty have semester borrowing privileges. You may also obtain a Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (CRC) card from a librarian which provides loan privileges at NC State, Meredith, Shaw and St. Augustine's.

Purchase Requests

Library funds for faculty book orders are allocated to the academic divisions in a lump sum, which is then subdivided by specific subject areas according to the desires of the faculty within each division.

Faculty members are encouraged to order as many titles as needed to support their teaching efforts and to develop an adequate library collection to support student assignments. You may read our collection development policy for more information on what the library will purchase.

Book orders may be submitted to Diane Jensen. Book orders should contain complete author, title, and publisher information, as well as the ISBN (if known) to identify the specific edition desired. Orders usually arrive within 30 days of submission and are ready for circulation within two weeks of arrival.

Traditional Reserves

Professors may place required readings on reserve in the library. These books, articles or media may be borrowed for 3 hours (library-use only), 24 hours, or 3 days, at your discretion.

Fill in a Reserve Request Form and submit it to the library with the items to go on reserve. Please allow at least 24 hours for items to be placed on reserve.

E-Reserves

The library offers a scanning service so you may place articles on Blackboard for your students to read. Please be aware of the following guidelines:

Allow at least one week to process requests. During peak times, processing may take longer.

Provide a clean photocopy of the material. If the item to be scanned is from a book, it is your responsibility to photocopy it.

Per Fair Use copyright guidelines, at this time, the only items accepted for scanning are articles from journals owned by the library or supplied by you and chapters from a book. Include complete citations for each required item in order to have your requests processed accurately. Library staff will not scan coursepacks or personally created anthologies, class notes, papers or tests.
