Sales tax and Peace College
From the Business Office: Do you assume the College is exempt from taxes because of its nonprofit status?  Not so, but it is a common misconception among employees and vendors. The sales of merchandise to nonprofit educational institutions are subject to sales tax. The good news is that the N.C. Department of Revenue provides for semiannual refunds of sales and use tax paid by the College. It’s important to inform vendors that Peace is not sales tax-exempt. When charging purchases on college credit cards, receipts must be submitted including the sales tax so the College can be refunded the tax.

2010 mileage reimbursement rate
From the Business Office: When traveling on College business, employees are able to claim reimbursement at the standard IRS mileage rate, which will move to 50 cents per mile for 2010. The IRS reimbursement rate covers such costs as gas, oil, cleaning, maintenance, upkeep, etc. When filing for reimbursement, the check request form should include the date, destination and purpose of travel. Employees should not fill up their personal vehicles with gas at the College expense. Please see the College Travel Policy located on my.peace.edu for more information about business-related travel and to reference this rate at any time during the year.

Sign up for Pacer Alerts for weather notifications, emergencies
Peace offers a text-messaging system to notify members of the campus community of emergencies or other timely news, such as inclement weather announcements. For weather announcements, this system is used in addition to the Inclement Weather Line messages. You must sign up for the Pacer Alert service to receive the text messages, which are sent to text message-capable cell phones. It’s easy to sign up for the alerts. Go either directly to this page -- http://www.peace.edu/content/page/id/560 -- or to Peace’s home page and click on the button that reads “Safety Alerts at Peace.” Have your cell phone with you and follow the instructions to register your phone with the system.
