Donations sought for medical unit in Afghanistan
Lauren Gerber in the Development Office is seeking donated supplies for her sister-in-law’s Air Force Reserves Medical Unit. Major Jennifer Anderson was deployed in mid-January with her unit to southern Afghanistan where she is the chief nurse. Her specialty is in-flight nursing after troop extraction and her unit is made up of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals performing triage on wounded soldiers. In her most recent update to Lauren, she wrote to ask for supplies to help her entire unit. Running water and electricity are considered commodities or amenities, and there are restrictions on both even when they have it. They also are sharing cots with no linens. To help get them through this time of service, if you’d like to participate in this supplies drive, please consider donating new, white cotton linens, pillows, sheets; small blankets; baby wipes and toiletries; socks (white or black long ones); phone cards to call home; cards, letters, and even pictures from new pen pals at home. Light snacks such as drink packs to put in bottled water, crackers, candies, and other goodies are also appreciated. Please do not donate magazines as they are not accepted. Contact Lauren with your donations or for more information. Thank you in advance.
Tax tables changed
The Human Resources Department would like to advise all employees that the new federal tax tables have been updated in the payroll module effective January 2010. Most employees will notice an increase in their federal tax withholdings. For further information regarding the new tax tables, please visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov. Employees can access the IRS Withholding Calculator to ensure enough income tax is being withheld for 2010. For additional information, please refer to the IRS Publication 919 (How Do I Adjust My Tax Withholding). Individuals who wish to make adjustments to their withholdings may do so by completing a Federal W-4 and returning it to Lauren Holmes in the Human Resources Department. Please remember that we cannot provide individual tax advice. Employees are encouraged to speak to their personal tax advisor with questions on their personal tax liability.
