Jacqueline Novogratz is the founder and CEO of Acumen Fund, a non-profitglobal venture fund that uses entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. She is the author of "The Blue Sweater: Bridging theGap between Rich and Poor in an Interconnected World," the summer reading assignment for first-year students.

Lynn Nottage, the award-winning author of such plays as "Intimate Apparel" and "Fabulation," continues her tradition ofthoughtful, touching and funny plays with "Crumbs from the Table ofJoy." It's 1950 and Godfrey Crump has just lost his wife. Finding solace in Father Divine and the Peace Mission Movement, he pulls up stakes andmoves his teenage daughters to Brooklyn. Told through the eyes of his17-year-old daughter Ernestine, "Crumbs from the Table of Joy" aims straight at the heart in a story that deals with boundaries of race, gender, and society.

On the occasion of his marriage, Theseus, Duke of Athens,entertains a plea from an angry Egeus about his disobedient daughter.Hermia wants to marry Lysander but Egeus wants her to marry Demetrius. Onpain of death, the Duke orders Hermia to obey her father. Ratherthan marry Demetrius, Hermia defies the Duke's decree and with Lysander fleesinto the forest, in to the night, into the world of magic potions and enchantment, and into the world of dreams. Thus begins Shakespeare's beloved "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Yet this is indeed justthe beginning. There in the night; humans and fairies, rustics and royalty, lovers and children, ancient myth and legend, all convergeand collide in the service and pursuit of true love. Raleigh artist Casey Porn creates witty and exquisitely crafted paintings in a graphic cartoon style. Her work typically depicts hybridized animals agains tpatterned backgrounds. The images and their titles both amuse and provoke.

Anna Podris, a Raleigh based artist, paints imagined landscapes and city scapes using oils and encaustic paint. Podris's paintings are known for their quirky colors and mythic narratives. She says, "I paint in a stream of consciousness way, letting the work unfold."
