Meet the Faculty

 

Jim Smith teaches voice and directs the College's two choral organizations, the Peace College Chamber Singers and the Peace College Choir. He has been a guest soloist and conductor in concerts sponsored by the North Carolina Bach Festival, the College's Arts and Lectures Series and Williamson Chamber Music Series, and he is a member of the Raleigh Oratorio Chamber Choir, a professional chorus of 22 singers.

Virginia Vance teaches courses in Music Theory, accompanies the College’s choral groups, and serves as College organist. As a concert organist, she has participated in performances sponsored by the College’s Arts and Lectures Series, the Williamson Chamber Music Series, and the North Carolina Bach Festival. Ms. Vance is Organist at First Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount, where she plays a 1999 organ built by Richards and Fowkes.

 Since making his debut at the age of twelve in Chicago's Petty Auditorium, pianist Milton Rubén Laufer has enjoyed performing throughout the world to the delight of audiences and critics alike. A Chicago native, Laufer began playing the piano at three years of age, and his training includes studies at Chicago's Music Center of the North Shore, The Moscow Conservatory, The Gnessin Institute-Moscow, The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, The University of Michigan, and Rice University in Houston.
