More About the Evening Program
Evening Teacher Education Program
(Licensure only)
Peace College announces the beginning of an adult evening licensure only teacher education program the fall of 2007. Our unique program, leading to licensure in both elementary and special education general curriculum, was designed in partnership with Wake County Public Schools.
Who is eligible? Anyone who has completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 2.5 cumulative GPA and has completed the pre-requisite course PSY 355: Introduction to Exceptional Individuals (or an equivalent course) may apply.
When are classes taught? Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:15 p.m. to 9 pm on the Peace College campus in downtown Raleigh (Parking is free and available close to the classroom building.) In addition, there are four Saturday morning classes per semester.
When will I student teach? You will student teach during two summers, ten weeks in an elementary classroom one summer and an additional ten weeks in a special education classroom during another summer. If you are currently employed, some employer flexibility will be essential to you completing the requirements satisfactorily. In addition, you will spend 90 hours of practicum time in a classroom setting during the fall and spring semester of the first year.
How long does the program last? Six semesters – fall, spring and summer sessions for two years.
What is the tuition? The tuition for the two-year program is $13,000. Textbooks are extra.
Are there scholarships? N.C. residents may be eligible for a North Carolina Legislative Tuition Grant, prorated for part-time hours. In addition, there may be scholarships available through your current employer, the N.C. Assistance Authority (legislative funded scholarships and loans) or the North Carolina Model Teacher Education Consortium.
To apply to the licensure-only evening program:
- Submit an official transcript which verifies your baccalaureate graduation with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Complete the prerequisite course PSY 355: Psychology of Exceptional Individuals
