What is an internship? An internship is any carefully monitored work or service experience in which a student has intentional learning goals and reflects actively on what she is learning throughout the experience (National Association of Colleges and Employers.)

How do I find an Internship? There are several ways:

1. Internships are posted on the College Central Network. They are listed under jobs posted at my school.
2. Internships are posted on companies and organizations web sites. If you see an internship posted on a external web site, forward the internship description to career services careercenter@peace.edu for approval.
3. If you would like to create your own internship site based on your career and educational goals, make an appointment with Career Services and we will assist you be approved by your major department and by Career Services.

 

When can I do my internship? You must be at least a second semester junior or senior. You should have completed at least three courses in your major.

What semester should I do my internship? Discuss your goals, major requirements and your subsequent semester class load with your advisor to decide when is the best time for you. Internships may be completed during fall, spring or summer semesters.

How many internships may I complete? You can do up to six credit hours of internship study. Usually an internship is 3 credits hours and two 3 credit internships are the maximum allowed.

How many hours must I work? You should be at your internship site working 40 hours per credit hour you earn. A 3 credit hour internship = 120 on site. You may begin counting your internship on-site hours after your completed Learning Agreement Form is approved and filed with Career Services.

How do I get started? Attend an Internship Information session offered each semester prior to registration. This is required session in which you will begin your registration process and receive all the dates, deadlines and information needed to complete this requirement.

What is the Internship Class? It is required class meetings with a faculty member bi-weekly during your internship semester. The class meeting times are listed in the course schedule under your major and the course number 490 (for example Communication Internship is COM 490, Psychology is PSY 490, etc.)The class syllabus will detail the requirements of the Internship Program, and complementary assignments. Be sure not to schedule internship work time, other classes or any other work or activities during this class time.

May I get paid and receive academic credit for my Internship? Yes

How will the Internship be evaluated? You will be graded (A, B, C, D, or F) based on obtaining your learning objectives, attendance and participation in your Internship Class, class assignments and your site supervisor's evaluation.

What is an exit interview? The exit interview is between Career Services and the student intern after the supervisor and student evaluations are completed. Check your syllabus for the dates you may schedule your exit interview. At this time, we will review your site supervisor's evaluation, discuss if your learning objectives have been met, and converse on how your internship experience has impacted your career goals.
