Peace College Dance Company

Dance at Peace is about your intellectual, physical, and spiritual pursuit of movement. You can begin or continue your pursuit of dance within a liberal arts setting. The three components of Dance at Peace College are the classes, the Peace College Dance Company, and the program of masterclasses and performances.

Dance classes are housed within the Physical Education and Health Department and can help you fulfill your physical education and health, cross-cultural, and fine arts requirements. Study Ballet, Modern, Pilates, Dance Appreciation, African, Jazz, Social dance, Yoga, and special topics courses.

The Peace College Dance Company (PCDC) is the semi-professional dance company of Peace College and is open to all students by audition. As a part of the PCDC you will have the chance to study with professional choreographers with national credentials such as Christal Brown (Urban Bush Women), Michelle Pearson (Liz Lerman Dance Exchange), and others. You will improve technique and performance quality by studying dance in many forms with faculty and guest artists. As a company member, you perform 4-6 times each academic year in various settings and have the opportunity to produce your own choreography as well. In addition, you will attend the NC Dance Alliance's Annual Event, the only state-wide conference for dance.

The Dance Program at Peace College consists of a series of on-campus masterclasses and attendance at off-campus performances. A masterclass is a free, singular class with a specific focus such as African Dance, Capoeira, Belly Dance, Inclusive Dance, Arts Adminitration, Contact Improvisation, and others. Masterclasses are taught by guest artists of national and regional renown such as Dr. Chuck Davis and Jackie Hand. Some masterclasses are open to everyone on campus, while others are targeted specifically for the PCDC members. In addition to attending the PCDC's on-campus performances, you can attend other professional dance performances with groups of Peace College students in the area such as Philadanco, Carolina Ballet, Garth Fagan, and the NC Dance Festival.

Dance at Peace College is an exciting mixture- you get to enjoy small class size while working closely with nationally renowned artists. Classes and master classes are small enough to give you personalized attention in the basics but allow you to explore new modalities. As a Peace College student, you can try yoga as you fulfill a PEH requirement or take a masterclass in African Dance with internationally renowned Dr. Chuck Davis.
