Martin Luther King Jr. Day marked “a day on, not a day off” for Peace College. Around 50 students participated in the College’s first Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service organized by Julie Lawson and the Student Development team. Peace volunteers made contributions to Haven House, the Carnivore Preservation, Marbles and Communities in Schools.

Peace joined forces with the North Carolina Campus Compact, a coalition of 35 higher education institutions in North Carolina to organize the event. Their hope was to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by recognizing MLK Day with a day of service.

NC Campus Compact member institutions are mobilized over 500 diverse college students and youth to complete service projects throughout the state of North Carolina while reflecting on Dr. King's life. Nine campuses organized 50 projects that assist local agencies in expanding or improving their abilities to help the people they serve.
