PCT Presents THEmisanthrope
Peace College Theatre revisits Molière's classic social comedy "The Misanthrope" with a new adaptation written by Peace theatre student senior Kristal DeSantis. Set in Las Vegas in the present day, DeSantis's "THEmisanthrope" offers a critique of the current celebrity social scene.
Playwright and actor DeSantis stated, "I had no idea when I started adapting this play that it would turn out the way it has. I had a much more modest view of the end goal and I've been surprised at how much I was able to pull out of myself."
Co-director and producer Kenny Gannon remarked on DeSantis's ability to tackle and succeed with such a daunting project. "Kristal is so very bright. She is a very talented actor but I wasn't sure how she would respond to this writing challenge. She's written a biting and funny take on America's fascination with the likes of Brittany Spears and Lindsey Lohan and what that has to say about us as a culture."
The all-female and all-student cast features DeSantis '08, Johanna Coats '10, Liz McDonald '11, Lisa Hart '09, Ciara Stubbs '09, Heaven Gouch '11, Lauren Manns '09, Aoife Hammersmith '08, Felicia Plummer '09, Solana Sparks '10, Christina Fico '11 and Hillary Weidig '08.
"THEmisanthrope" is co-directed by Kenny Gannon and guest artist Flynt Burton. Performances are Wednesday-Tuesday (except Sunday) February 20-26 at 7:30 p.m. in Leggett Theater. Call 508-2051 or email theatre@peace.edu for tickets.
Tickets are free for all Peace students, $5 for all other students, $7.50 for faculty and staff, and $15 for the general public.
