Peace College Team Wins State Title in Human Resources Competition

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 26, 2007) - A team from Peace College has won first place in a North Carolina human resources competition.

The victory on Saturday marked the second year in a row that Peace has won the state title in the Society for Human Resource Management's "HR Games" competition for college students. The Peace team will compete in April in Southeastern regional competition, which Peace also won last year.

The state champion Peace College "Green Team" is made up of Nikki Marcom of Apex, Charlotte Pipkin of Willow Spring, N.C., and Olivia Simpson of Greensboro. In the final round they defeated a team from Meredith College, which hosted the event. Nine teams competed, representing UNC-Wilmington, N.C. State University, UNC-Charlotte and N.C. A&T University, in addition to Peace and Meredith.

The HR Games feature questions selected from the national human resources certification examination posed in "Jeopardy!"-style matches.

The Peace teams are coached by Kathy Corley, an instructor in human resources and business.

Members of Peace's winning team will compete against students from surrounding states in the Southeastern regional competition April 18-20 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Winners of the regional competition will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the Society for Human Resource Management national convention in Las Vegas in June.
