Robert Young, founder and chief executive officer of print-on-demand publisher Lulu.com and co-founder of the software firm Red Hat, will deliver the commencement address at Peace College's graduation ceremonies on May 10.

Young launched Raleigh-based Lulu.com in 2002, offering people an Internet-based method of publishing and selling their own books, images, multimedia and music. The service allows people to bring their creative work to market without surrendering control of the intellectual property.

As co-founder and former chairman of Red Hat, Young was responsible for the early success of the company. Among Young's many honors was being named one of Business Week Magazine's "Top Entrepreneurs" in 1999.

"Bob is a visionary who is able to make real what he sees into the future," said Peace College President Laura Bingham. "His leadership with Red Hat catapulted his talents onto the world stage, and now with his newest venture, Lulu.com, he's making advances in technology accessible for creative people to express themselves.

"Plus, he's made some very smart hires in three talented former Peace students, Leah Catherine Daniel, Anna Pollard and Kenia Caze, whose worlds are expanding exponentially through their work at Lulu.com."

Weather permitting, commencement ceremonies will be held on the College Green of the historic Peace College campus in downtown Raleigh. Peace will award bachelor's degrees to approximately 120 students.
