Auditions
If you are considering a major in music, an audition for the music faculty is required. For your audition, you will need to prepare three pieces. If you are a singer, we prefer that at least one of your songs be in a foreign language. If you are a pianist, organist, or instrumentalist, it is helpful to the faculty if you prepare compositions from different periods, such as the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras.
Although you may prefer to perform from memory, this is not required for the audition. For non-keyboard auditions, an accompanist will be provided. You may schedule an audition at your convenience by contacting the music faculty directly.
Scholarships
The Music Department at Peace College is pleased to be able to offer competitive scholarships for music majors. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of an audition, as described above, and they are renewable for each of your four years at Peace. In addition to the music scholarship, you are eligible for an Academic Merit Award that is also renewable annually.
Music Scholarship – up to $7,500 annually, based on an audition
Academic Merit Award – up to $15,000 annually, based on your high school records
TOTAL – up to $22,500 per year for your college education in music
Additionally, juniors and seniors are eligible for the Davis Music Scholarship, which is usually worth approximately $10,000. In order to take advantage of these scholarships, we encourage you to apply to Peace and to audition no later than the first week of March, 2010. Please contact Virginia L. Vance, Coordinator of Music Studies, for further information or to schedule an audition.
