The Disability Resource Center Registration Process
Institutional and Student Responsibilities

THE ROLE OF THE DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER (DRC):

Peace College will provide reasonable accommodations according to the requirements set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504/508 of the 1973 Vocational Rehabilitation Act only after the student has contacted the Disability Resource Center and completed the Accommodations process in a timely manner.

It can take several weeks to establish each student's accommodations initially. The Disability Resource Center is small and the number of students it serves continues to grow. There are many steps to be completed in the establishment of services for each student. This requires the student to act immediately and follow through on requests made by this office in order to access the accommodations.

Disability Resource Center (DRC) will:

  • Provide necessary information and forms to enable the student to self-disclose.
  • Assess documentation provided by the student during the application/admission process.
  • Approve students for the Disability Resource Center program based on appropriate documentation.
  • Assist the student in identification of appropriate accommodations.
  • Assist the student in faculty notification of accommodations.
  • Advise on course load and selections.
  • Be a resource for both students with disabilities and their instructors.

THE ROLE OF THE STUDENT WITH DISABILITIES:

When the student receives the acceptance package from the admissions office, it will include a brochure with instructions about the self disclosure process. If the student wishes accommodations, she should contact us as soon as possible to begin the disclosure process.

The student has the right to choose when and where to use accommodations, but because the process of establishing those accommodations is time-consuming, students must contact us in a timely manner. Late requests for accommodations may cause a delay in establishing those accommodations. In addition, waiting to establish accommodations means it is unlikely that a C or D will become an A or B in the same semester.

Students will:

  • Identify themselves to the Disability Resource Center and request services
  • Respond promptly to all notices and requests made to them by the DRC, and follow all instructions and guidelines of this office in order to receive accommodations
  • Provide an appropriate diagnostic report to the DRC by May 1st for fall matriculation and by October 15th for spring matriculation.
