Peace College Team Ties for Third Place

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 20, 2009) - A Peace College team has tied for third place among 28 teams competing in the Southeastern regional "HR Games," a contest sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management.

The Peace "White Team," made up of Nikki Marcom of Apex, Paulette Culp of Knightdale and Maureen Friece of Norwood, Mass., tied for third place with a team from the University of South Alabama. Peace's "White Team" had won the North Carolina title in March.

Peace's "Green Team," made up of Paige Atkins of Lillington, Lauren Rouse of Fayetteville and Tracey Wright of Garner, placed tenth in the regional competition. For the first time, Peace entered a third team in the competition. That team placed 20th.

The "HR Games" competition features questions selected from the national human resources certification examination posed in "Jeopardy!"-style matches. The competition was held on Saturday in Richmond, Va., in conjunction with the Southeast Regional Student SHRM Conference.

Liberty University took first place in the competition, while UNC-Wilmington won second place.

A Peace College team has won either first or second place in statewide "HR Games" competition in six of the last seven years. Since 2005, in Southeastern regional competition a Peace team has won first place once, placed second twice and now third place once.

The Peace teams are coached by Kathy Corley, an instructor in human resources and business.

"I am proud of our students' performance in the ‘HR Games,'" Corley said. "These remarkable young women have contributed to the strong reputation Peace College's human resources program enjoys among the local HR and business community. We are considered at the top of our "game" because of the dedication, perseverance, knowledge and talent of our Peace students."

Peace College is a four-year baccalaureate arts and sciences college that offers a challenging program of study that provides women strong intellectual and personal foundations upon which to build successful and meaningful professional and academic careers. Peace's educational program consistently earns the college rankings in the top 10 percent in several categories of the National Survey of Student Engagement.
