Peace employees invited to Quilt Symposium exhibition
Peace College faculty and staff are being offered free admission to the exhibition in Hermann Center that is part of the N.C. Quilt Symposium taking place on campus this week. Setup is already under way for the event. But resident-attendees will begin arriving on Thursday. Please greet our guests and be aware that they will be making heavy use of our parking and other facilities. The exhibition runs Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. until noon. Peace employees will be admitted free with a College ID.
Whitney Cain wins ’40 Under 40 Leadership Award’
Peace College's Whitney Cain, associate professor of child development, has been honored by the Triangle Business Journal as one of the winners of the paper's "40 Under 40 Leadership Awards." The newspaper, in its May 15 edition (available online only to subscribers), has a short Q&A profile of Dr. Cain. Among other things, in it we learn what was Whitney’s first job: “Selling lemonade from a stand in my front yard. It taught me that I should not go into sales or outside work.”
Employees invited to visit Archaeological Field School
Peace folks are invited to visit Peace’s second archaeological field school. This year’s field school is being held at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site, located near Southport. The field school is a cooperative effort through Peace College, the Historic Sites Division of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, the N.C. State Office of Archaeology, and the Coe Foundation for Archaeological Research. The field school, which includes six Peace College students and 16 other students from across the country, is being run by Dr. Vinnie Melomo and adjunct instructor and professional archaeologist Tom Beaman. The site is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 9-5 pm. Visitors are welcome at anytime. But anyone interested in getting some experience as an archaeological volunteer should contact Vinnie at vmelomo@peace.edu to schedule a visit between May 26 and June 11. A public archaeology day is being held on Saturday, June 6.
New on Peace Facebook: An interview with graduate Lauren Steele
New this week on Peace’s Facebook “fan page” is a video of May graduate Lauren Steele. Lauren talks eloquently about how she came to attend Peace, what she gained from her experiences here, and what they mean for her as she prepares to enter graduate school at N.C. State. You may view the video at Peace's Facebook fan page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Raleigh-NC/Peace-College/64976863262.
