New online: Peace College archaeological field school video
We've posted a new video online in which you can learn more about the Peace College 2009 Archaeological Field School. A half dozen Peace students, joined by other students from around the country, took part in excavating a site at the Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site near Southport during three weeks in May and June. The work uncovered a surprising amount of colonial artifacts, in addition to Native American artifacts and others from when the site was used as a barracks area by the Confederate Army during the Civil War. In a video posted on the College's Facebook fan page and on YouTube, student Elaina Bright gives a tour of the field school site, describing some of the work done there.

Reminder: Urban Ministries needs children's books
Mari Lippig reports that they have learned that Urban Ministries of Wake County is in great need for children's' books. Many families take their sick children to the Urban Ministries Open Door Clinic and also take their well children when they go to pick up food, prescriptions, financial assistance and other helpful community connections to help stabilize their lives. The children's books provide entertainment while the children wait for their families or their doctors. The children are encouraged to take books home. We have placed a signed book bin on our Wellness Center corridor outside the Student Waiting Room. You may come and deposit books anytime.  The books should be in good condition with no missing pages. If you are unable to drop off your books, we will make arrangements to come and pick up books. This will be an ongoing project throughout the summer months.
