Faculty, staff invited to take part in race relations program
How do you address issues of race, racism and race relations? It’s simple. Engage in dialogues about race in college classrooms within campus communities. Help address racial equity through dialogue and collaborative action on your campus. The ‘Moving from Dialogue to Action’ (MDAP) program addresses racial equity through dialogue and collaborative action for college students, faculty and staff by engaging difficult dialogues about race in college classrooms and within campus communities.Join your Peace College colleagues as well as colleagues from the NCSU, Meredith, Shaw, and St. Aug in a MDAP program. A series of MDAP programs will be offered over the next year. Please consider attending one of them.
A program is a six-hour commitment where participants will be assigned to a group to dialogue about race and develop action plans to address identified problems. The first session will be on the Peace College campus. Dawn Dillon, Director of the First Year Adventure and Residence Life at Peace and Janet Howard, Special Assistant to the Vice Provost for Office for Equal Opportunity at NCSU will facilitate the session. The sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, July 14th, 21st and 28th and will be held from 2-4 p.m. in Flowe.
If you are interested in participating in this or other MDAP programs, please sign up on the following website: http://www.ncsu.edu/mdap/index.html . If you are interested and are unable to attend this session, please check the website for alternative dates. If you have any questions about MDAP, feel free to contact Dawn Dillon at x2005 or ddillon@peace.edu

Reminder: Urban Ministries needs children’s books
Mari Lippig reports that they have learned that Urban Ministries of Wake County is in great need for children’s’ books. Many families take their sick children to the Urban Ministries Open Door Clinic and also take their well children when they go to pick up food, prescriptions, financial assistance and other helpful community connections to help stabilize their lives. The children’s books provide entertainment while the children wait for their families or their doctors. The children are encouraged to take books home. We have placed a signed book bin on our Wellness Center corridor outside the Student Waiting Room. You may come and deposit books anytime. The books should be in good condition with no missing pages. If you are unable to drop off your books, we will make arrangements to come and pick up books. This will be an ongoing project throughout the summer months.
