Fitness Center Cleaning this Wednesday
Did you know that 50% of all visits to Health Services this past year were related to PREVENTABLE communicable diseases such as strep, MRSA, flu, gastroenteritis, conjunctivitis, ringworm etc! Health Services is making communicable disease prevention a top priority on campus in 2009 -2010. Many disease-causing bacteria, viruses and fungi can live happily and abundantly for significant periods of time on college campuses -- especially inside gymnasiums!
The Wellness Center staff and Housekeeping invite you to a morning of pure calorie-burning fun at our Peace fitness center in Ross Hall. We will give the center a hygiene makeover with elbow grease using eco-friendly bacterial, viral and fungal cleaning agents. Even if you can only come for a half hour, put on your favorite, most comfy cleaning gear and come on down and join in the fun. Coffee and treats will be served! The cleaning party will be on Wednesday, July 29, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Peace's Disability Resource Center Receives "Breaking Down Barriers to Literacy Technology" Award
Please take a moment to congratulate the Michele Fountain and team for receiving the "Breaking Down Barriers to Literacy Technology" award. Premier Assistive Technology, Inc. issues a limited number of awards to educational institutions through their "Breaking Down Barriers to Literacy" program. This award provides features use of their Accessibility Suite software for one year which supports individuals who experience challenges with reading and writing. The program is meant to be utilized campus-wide and not on in individual departments and offices. The company's broad-use philosophy supports the idea of Universal Design, which benefits all learners.
Users can read documents in standard file formats such as Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format (.rtf), text file format (.txt), HTML, and PDF. Not only can these files be accessed through text-to-speech capabilities at a computer workstation, but they can also be converted to audio files for use on a CD or MP3 player while away from the computer. The Suite also contains tools to assist students in improving composition skills, scanning and reading documents, and creating study notes. Included in this award is Premier AT Home, hosted by Premier Literacy's secure website in which individuals can fully access the Accessibility Suite software from any computer anywhere without requiring login to the school network.
After the one-year period expires, there will be an optional, but very nominal, upgrade/support fee that an organization can pay to entitle them to future product releases and upgrades, technical support, and company communications. For more information visit http://www.readingmadeez.com/education/
