Campus Announcements
Campus Announcements for Sept. 28, 2009
The Peace College Garden Club will begin its fall gardening season with a “campus clean-up day” tomorrow. If you’d like to join in the fun, bring your gardening gloves and clippers and meet us at the fountain at 5 p.m.! We will divide into groups and pick up branches, limbs, trash, and clip shrubs (and get our daily dose of Vitamin D). If you are unable to join us, please consider gathering your department and form your own ‘clean-up day’ by walking the perimeter of your building, picking and clipping as you go. For more information, contact Carol Grossi at cgrossi@peace.edu.
Faculty/staff invited to join SGA campus walk-through
In light of the recent events on campus, the Student Government Association is scheduling a campus-wide walk-through of the campus. Students will have already participated in a forum earlier in the day, but we want them to make suggestions and give more feedback about how to make the campus safer. The walk-through will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m., beginning at the fountain. All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to come. The walk-through should take about 30 minutes.
Time to check your payroll withholding
With less than four months remaining in the year, the Human Resource Department would like to send a reminder out for employees to check their tax withholding levels. As you may remember, the Making Work Pay tax credit (MWPC) has lowered tax withholding rates for 2009. This change could result in withholding that is less than your personal income tax liability. Individuals among the following groups should pay particular attention to their withholding:
· Pensioners
· Married couples with two incomes
· Individuals with multiple jobs
· Workers who can be claimed as dependents by other taxpayers
Employees can access the IRS Withholding Calculator to ensure enough income tax is withheld for 2009. For further information, please refer to the IRS Publication 919 (How Do I Adjust My Tax Withholding). Individuals who wish to make adjustments to their withholding may complete a Federal W-4 and return it to Lauren Holmes in the Human Resource Department.
Please remember that we cannot provide individual tax advice. Employees are encouraged to speak to their personal tax advisor for more information on how the MWPC may affect their personal tax liability.
