Campus Announcements for Oct. 19, 2009

Chairs for Presidential Search Committee Named
Board of Trustees Chair Todd Robinson has announced that Trustees Fred Kelly and Beth Cherry ’72 will chair and co-chair, respectively, the Search Committee for Peace College’s next president.

Mr. Kelly was president and CEO of Aeroglide Corporation from 1991 until 2009.   A graduate of the University of Virginia with an MBA from the University of North Carolina, Mr. Kelly has been a member of the Peace College Board of Trustees since 2008.   He has also served on the NCSU Board of Visitors, the NCSU Foundation, and the Rex Hospital Foundation.

Mrs. Cherry has been a very active alumna of Peace and was a member of the last Presidential Search Committee when President Bingham was appointed.  She is a past president of the Alumnae Association and served as a trustee from 1996-2003 before returning to the board in 2006, and currently serves as vice chair of the board.

Mr. Robinson said that a search firm should be selected by the first of November, and that additional members of the search committee will be announced shortly thereafter.

Sandy Briscar, VP for Marketing and College Relations, will serve as the administrative liaison for the presidential search.

Mexico summer study abroad trip subject of Tuesday talk
Dr. Laura Vick, professor of Anthropology and Ragland Professor of International Studies will host a session on the Mexico summer study abroad, which will take place July 1-22 next summer. The talk is open to all students, faculty and staff and will be held on Tuesday in Flowe 322, at 5 p.m.  Please make plans to attend!

Book requests due by Nov. 4; no more instructor manuals
All book requests received after November 4 for the Spring Semester 2010 cannot be guaranteed to be available for starting of classes. Please do not expect the Bookstore to have books shipped overnight/next day due to the tardiness of your book request. This is extremely costly to the college and the students are at an extreme disadvantage when they do not have the appropriate textbook for the start of class.

Also, due to the fact our staff is limited plus the extra volume of textbooks, we can no longer order instructor manuals. You can contact your publisher representative for a desk copy. Please check your email regarding detailed information about the Textbook Adoption Form. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration of this matter.  Feel free to contact Sarah Heenan in the Bookstore with any questions.

Faculty and staff are invited to choose one of the meals during family weekend to attend for free so that you may interact with students’ families. You may also bring your own family if you’d like. If you are interested, please email Cameron Hill at clhill@peace.edu indicating which meal you’d like to RSVP for (must sign up ahead of time)...

Reminder: Check your payroll withholding
As we enter the last months of the year, the Human Resource Department reminds employees to check your tax withholding levels.  As you may remember, the Making Work Pay tax credit has lowered tax withholding rates for 2009.  This change could result in withholding that is less than your personal income tax liability.  Individuals among the following groups should pay particular attention to their withholding:
·                     Pensioners
·                     Married couples with two incomes
·                     Individuals with multiple jobs
·                     Workers who can be claimed as dependents by other taxpayers

Employees can access the IRS Withholding Calculator to ensure enough income tax is withheld for 2009.  For further information, please refer to the IRS Publication 919 (How Do I Adjust My Tax Withholding).  Individuals who wish to make adjustments to their withholding may complete a Federal W-4 and return it to Lauren Holmes in the Human Resource Department.

Please remember that we cannot provide individual tax advice.  Employees are encouraged to speak to their personal tax advisor for more information on how the MWPC may affect their personal tax liability.
