  • October 15, 2014 The Importance of Being Earnest William Peace Theatre presents Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by Amy White. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, The Importance of Being Earnest is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personae to escape burdensome social obligations. The play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways. Its high farce, humor and witty dialog have helped make The Importance of Being Earnest Wilde's most enduringly popular play. Four-Year Baccalaureate University Sponsors Major League Baseball’s Free Contest To Recognize Individual Excellence In Core Softball Skills For Girls

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that it will sponsor the Aquafina® Major League Baseball® Pitch, Hit & RunTM Competition for girls on Sunday, April 1 starting at 10 a.m. at the Wachovia Athletic Park, located on campus at 15 E. Peace St. As the official skills competition for Major League Baseball®, this grassroots program for girls ages 7 to 14 provides a free opportunity to participate in an event that recognizes individual excellence in core softball skills. Competitors are divided into four age ranges – 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 – and have the chance to advance to four levels of competition, including Team Championship at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2012 MLBTM All-Star Game. The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each group in the local competition, will advance to the Sectional Level of competition.

"As part of our continuing outreach to the local community, William Peace University is honored to sponsor this athletic competition," said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. "This event will provide the girls with a great, constructive opportunity to hone their athletic skills. We wish all participants the best of luck and invite everyone to come out and cheer for these players."

All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition. For more information on the program, visit http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/kids/mlb_pitch_hit_run.jsp.
