William Peace University Launches Criminal Justice Major
Four-Year Baccalaureate University Expands Educational Offerings With The Addition Of The William Peace University Criminal Justice Program

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that the institution has expanded its educational offerings with the addition of its criminal justice major. The William Peace University Criminal Justice Program will consist of interdisciplinary courses that will provide students with insight into the conditions – psychological and sociological – that lead to criminal behavior. Additionally, the program will cover components of the U.S. legal system as well as forensics.

The Criminal Justice Program is comprised of 39 hours. Students will be required to meet 18 hours of criminal justice core courses and nine hours of elective courses. Additionally, students will complete 12 hours toward The Raleigh Experience, which will provide a hands-on learning opportunity for students to work alongside area professionals in fields specifically related to criminal justice.

The Raleigh Experience will allow students in their senior year to complete an intensive, 40 hours per week co-op program. Through the program, students will be expected to work for three areas related to the criminal justice concentration, which includes advocacy and lobbying, governance, law, nonprofit administration, politics, policy research, and public administration. During that time, students will additionally rotate through three five-week practicums.

QUOTES:

“Whether it’s working for the FBI or assisting companies in protecting their private cyber material, our workforce has a growing demanded for employees educated in the field of criminal justice,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. “We are proud to announce the William Peace University Criminal Justice Program and the unique opportunity it will provide students through The Raleigh Experience. Students who pursue this major will gain firsthand experience in the field of criminal justice prior to graduation, positioning them as marketable candidates for future employers.”

For students enrolling in fall 2013, standard housing will remain at $6,186 and the standard 14-meal plan will remain at $2,814. The housing and board freeze follows the institutions previous announcement in 2012 to freeze tuition for the 2013-2014 academic calendar, which marks the second consecutive year for William Peace University. Tuition will remain at $23,700. The tuition, housing and board freeze reflects the same amount it cost for students attending William Peace University since the 2012-2013 academic year, which marked a 7.73 percent reduction instituted in fall 2012.

The 2012-2013 academic year has proven to be a year of significant growth for William Peace University, with enrollment figures totaling 791 students, an increase of 9 percent from the previous year. New student enrollment increased by 82 percent in the 2012-2013 academic year, and to date the university has an 80 percent increase on deposits for the 2013-2014 academic year compared to the previous year. Continuing in its commitment to offer affordability and higher learning access to all students, the university’s tuition, housing and board freeze takes place in the midst of countless institutions across the state of North Carolina and the nation who have recently announced increases in tuition, room and board.

The ability to freeze tuition, housing and board in the state of our current economy comes from the focus of William Peace University’s Board of Trustees on controlling institutional costs overall, much of which came from the cost savings program implemented in 2011. William Peace University has implemented refined internal processes and environmental initiatives such as recycling more materials and becoming more energy efficient in an effort to decrease expenses.

“William Peace University’s ongoing commitment to higher education has been centered on three guiding principles – affordability, accessibility and accountability – as we truly believe that each of these play an integral role in providing students with the education they rightfully deserve,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. “It is our primary focus to equip students for their professional career, but the only way to ensure that it takes place is by establishing a system that addresses the financial considerations of students today. Our economy is improving, but is still a challenge for most Americans. We hope that the tuition, housing and board freeze will better assist students throughout the learning process.”

There has been news this week in regards to the refinancing of William Peace University bonds from 2004 and the Seaboard Station bankruptcy. Unfortunately, there has been some confusion that has combined these two separate topics, and we wanted to clarify.

In regards to the possible purchase of Seaboard:
The Seaboard Station property is in bankruptcy and we understand that there are several parties interested in it, including William Peace University. At this time, any questions related to the purchase on the property would be best directed to Seaboard’s broker at Capital Associates.

In regards to the public hearing today:
It has come to our attention that some social media postings have caused some confusion about the subject matter of the public hearing scheduled for tomorrow. The public hearing scheduled several weeks ago relates to the refinance of Peace’s 2004 bonds and to some limited campus projects in the area bounded on the North by Delway Street, the South by East Peace Street, the West by Halifax Street and the East by N. Blount Street. The bonds and the projects do not relate to the Seaboard Station property which is the subject of these social media postings.

We understand that the Seaboard Station property is in bankruptcy and, although this property is near WPU, the public hearing has nothing to do with Seaboard. It is our hope that the public hearing will focus solely on the relevant issue, i.e. the bonds and the current campus projects as set forth above.

Four-Year Baccalaureate University Redesigns Website To
Better Engage And Reach Current And Prospective Students And Alumni

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced the launch of the university’s new website. An ongoing project overseen by the Office of Communications and Marketing, the website has been tailored to focus on enrollment and audience-based messaging by using both verbal and visual platforms that fall in line with the overall messaging of the university’s other marketing collateral. By fully integrating monitoring, measurement and audience engagement features, the redesigned website incorporates easier navigation that adjusts to meet the needs of the individual user depending on which section is selected – prospective students for the day program, prospective students for the school of professional studies or university alumni. Additionally, the website launched a new live chat, which allows visitors to directly connect with university representatives. By evaluating the user’s page, the live chat system notifies representatives from the appropriate university departments to answer user questions and concerns in an effort to deliver the most effective response.

William Peace University’s athletic website (http://www.gopeacepacers.org/landing/index) has received an extensive renovation to provide a more interactive platform, including minute-by-minute statistics and news, social feeds and page wraps. The site displays general information for each university sport as well as individual athlete highlights and statistics.

The website redesign occurred in conjunction with Marketing Partners, Inc., a strategic marketing and branding company located in Raleigh, and Mad Monk Interactive, an interactive marketing agency based in Greensboro, N.C.

“The fast pace transition and integration of online media has directly impacted the approach we now take in reaching our students, as it has been proven that more college-bound students correlate their knowledge of a university by first visiting an institution’s website when compared against any other print marketing collateral,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. “We are proud of the newly redesigned website, as it achieves our goal to use the site as a platform to highlight what a WPU education really means and the potential outcomes that can follow.”

“We are excited to have launched the newly renovated website for William Peace University,” said Justin G. Roy, vice president for communications and marketing. “All web content has been fully optimized and evaluated in an effort to provide users with a clean, ‘less is more,’ intuitive website layout. The website showcases the exciting activities and events taking place across campus as well as provides an excellent way for students and alumni to remain connected while still providing general university information.”
