WPU Announces 98% Employment/Further Education for 2016 Graduates

July 13, 2017

William Peace University is proud to report that 98% of its 2016 graduates have either gained employment or continued their education – the highest placement rate the University has achieved in the past 10 years. Data is based on a University questionnaire answered by 74% of 2016 graduates, collected 12 months following graduation.

Of the surveyed graduates, employers listed included ABC 11, BB&T, the Carolina Mudcats, the Cary Police Department, Citrix, Duke Hospital, Epic Games, the North Carolina Symphony, Rex Hospital, SECU, and Wake County Public Schools. Among the post undergraduate institutions listed were Elon University, Mary Baldwin College, North Carolina State University, UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law, and Vermont Law School.

“Our graduates are making an impact in their places of work, graduate programs, and their communities.”

Dr. Brian C. Ralph, WPU President

“We are excited to know that students are securing employment or further education, a lot within six months of graduation,” said Shelly Hoover-Plonk, Director of Career Services. “Over half of graduates reported their internship experience was influential in securing their first job offer, and 81% reported their internship provided marketable skills. We have our employers to thank as well for supporting our students to be successful. Students worked at more than 150 internship sites this past academic year.”

“The really incredible news here is that the numbers, as good as they are, only tell part of the story,” said Dr. Brian C. Ralph, President of WPU. “Our graduates are making an impact in their places of work, graduate programs, and their communities. Their experiences here equipped them to be successful from day one, giving them the confidence and tools they need to embrace life after William Peace University. I couldn’t be prouder of them as well as the faculty and staff who invest in the lives of our students.”

All WPU students are required to complete an academic internship along with learning other professional development courses which require a mock interview, etiquette dinner and attending networking events. In fact, WPU is rated No. 1 in the country among schools that produce the largest percentage of interns.

Since it first began collecting employment/further education data in 2000, the University has achieved at least a 90% placement rate every year. Since 2014, more than 96% of graduates have gained employment or continued their education within one year of graduating.
