First Year Experience

You only get one first year of college, so let’s make the best of it!

Student success is tied to the first critical year of college. That’s why WPU intentionally creates a special “First Year Experience.” We want to engage students in the campus’s academic and social communities and provide students the mental and emotional support they need to succeed.

The First Year Experience is so many things. Here are just some of the things we do to transition you to life as a Pacer:

  • New Student Orientation
  • Pathways to Peace
  • First Year Seminar: FYS 100
  • Pacer Success Series
  • Academic Advising
  • Living on Campus
  • Academic Convocation
  • Traditions Dinner
  • Purpose at Peace

At WPU, you will become part of a rich and mentoring culture that is intentionally created —from day one. Students, via their FYS 100 Course, are paired with a Peer Mentor (upper class student) and a First Year Mentor (FYS 100 Instructor). These mentors help you navigate your first year at WPU and ensure a successful transition.

Within your first few weeks on campus, you’ll find out very quickly why students say WPU “feels like home”
