Health + Safety

  • Will students be required to test for COVID-19?
Students who are not fully-vaccinated will be required to provide a negative COVID test result before arriving to campus in the fall and will be required to participate in on-going surveillance testing on-campus.  Health Services will provide unvaccinated students with their testing schedule.   For questions, please email HealthServices@peace.edu.
  • Will students be required to test for COVID-19?

  • What are the current health and safety recommendations when students return to campus for Fall 2021?
Students who have been sick with symptoms of COVID-19 or who have potentially been exposed to someone with COVID-19 (direct contact, travel, or community exposure) must inform the Health Services  immediately for further instructions.    Academic Affairs will work with students on COVID-related absences.

Students who become sick with symptoms of COVID-19 or have known exposure to COvID-19 must immediately notify Health Services at HealthServices@peace.edu for further instructions.

Students who are sick with symptoms of COVID-19 must abide by all guidelines provided by the health department and WPU staff including isolation and/or quarantining.

Students are responsible for practicing behaviors that reduce the spread of COVID-19 including personal prevention practices such as wearing face coverings in all required areas, handwashing and environmental prevention practices such as disinfecting and sanitizing their bathroom space.

Students who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for 10 days at home or in an isolation space on campus if they are not able to return home.

  • Are there any limits on indoor meetings and gatherings?
Yes, indoor gatherings must be limited to 25 or less participants with proper social distancing and mask wearing. Keep in mind that although the State of NC now allows gatherings of this size, the University may not approve all requests for events of this magnitude. Each space/room has a capacity limit that will not change. To ensure that we get to “stay” on campus, we must minimize the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19 to our students and employees. This includes continuing to follow best practices which may limit group sizes and activities. See the general Community Health Standards for additional information.
  • Are there restrictions on outdoor gatherings?
Yes, outdoor gatherings are limited to 50 participants with proper physical/social distancing and mask wearing. Keep in mind that larger group gatherings can present more risk so while the State of NC allows gatherings of this size, the University may not endorse these types of events. The priority must be to minimize the spread of the virus so that we can stay on campus.
  • Are these health and safety policies of WPU just for campus?
WPU is following the state mandated rules and expect you to follow these protocols off campus to ensure the health and safety of our community on your return from off-campus activities.

We have implemented additional health and safety protocols to mitigate the spread of COVID and ensure that we can maintain our in-person, residential experience and have necessary personnel onsite. Our priority is always the health and safety of our community campus and we will continue to monitor and respond to needs.

Some of these safety policies are specific to the WPU campus community.

  • What are some of the enhancements by the University to ensure a safe environment?
William Peace University has done extensive changes to enhance the health and wellbeing of the entire community. Including improved air quality in several buildings, heightened and increased cleaning schedules for common areas, reconfiguring of academic and office spaces to reduce density and elevate social distancing, changes in traffic flows (entry and exit points), installation of hand sanitizers across the campus, signage to ensure compliance and the importance of everyone doing their part, and additional cleaning supplies across campus.

We will continue to monitor and implement changes as we identify needs.

  • What is the plan for the Pacer athletic teams?
William Peace University athletic teams will continue to follow NCAA and USA South guidelines as it prepares for a return to full competition in the Fall of 2021. The Pacers persevered and all athletic programs were able to compete during the Spring semester. The University will continue to provide athletic competition opportunities, but student-athletes must also maintain compliance with all recommendations and protocols. These include but are not limited to, masking, COVID testing, distancing, and hygiene considerations. In addition, WPU athletics strongly urges all athletes to be vaccinated prior to participation. Full vaccination will have a positive impact upon the overall athletic experience for athletes, spectators and parents. The Fall of 2021 brings us great hope for the future of Pacer athletics but our primary concern remains the health and safety of our students. All returners and recruits will receive information from the athletic department administration and the athletic training staff prior to their arrival on campus. Students should contact their coach, athletic trainer or athletic administration if they have any questions or concerns about NCAA or WPU athletic communications. Residence Life and Housing will implement a phased move-in process:
