William Peace University (WPU) is excited to announce that First Citizens Bank has invested in the University’s Believe in Peace Strategic Plan by making a significant donation in support of the plan’s initiatives.

In 2016, WPU began the process of developing a new strategic plan for the University. With input from faculty, staff, students, alumni, neighbors and community leaders, President Brian C. Ralph, Ph.D., publicly unveiled the Believe in Peace Strategic Plan at the State of the University Address on November 14, 2017.  The plan outlines WPU’s strategic focus over the next five to seven years and highlights key initiatives to move WPU forward in the areas of academics, partnerships, growth and identity.

“Through their donation, First Citizens Bank is not simply investing in our University, but in the goals of our students as they strive to become outstanding citizens and leaders in our state, nation and world,” Dr. Ralph said. “I am grateful for First Citizens’ commitment to William Peace University and our community and we are honored to have such a high-quality organization supporting our vision to be a leading metropolitan university in the Southeast.”

Partnerships, like the one forged with First Citizens Bank, highlight the value of investing in the young leaders within the Raleigh Community. Each pillar of the Believe in Peace Strategic Plan is based on best exemplifying the University mission statement to “prepare students for careers in the organizations of tomorrow, rooted in the liberal arts tradition, the student develops an appreciation for life-long learning, a focus on meaningful careers, and skills for ethical citizenship.”

The four pillars of this initiative – Immersive Learning, Innovative Partnerships, Strategic Growth, and Distinctive Identity – are all founded on taking tangible and impactful steps to achieve this mission, an objective First Citizens Bank is invested in.

In recognition of First Citizens’ commitment to the University, William Peace University will be creating the First Citizens Bank Meeting Room within the new Welcome Center in its honor. The Welcome Center, located in iconic Main Building, is a renovation project and part of the overarching strategic plan. It will accommodate a reception area, presentation room, “living room” style meeting space and storage.  The Center is designed to include an open glass wall for the main entry area that highlights and blends with the new renovations currently in progress in Main.

“We applaud the University’s mission to educate our future leaders and local workforce and appreciate the critical role it plays in preparing them for success in a changing world.”

The Believe in Peace Strategic Plan was designed to promote the growth and impact that William Peace University has as a leader in higher education throughout our region. Throughout the course of Year One, the team made great progress towards the Believe in Peace plan, completing 28 aggressive Year One initiatives. The faculty and staff have already started on 15 of the 24 new initiatives for Year Two.

Year Two key initiatives include:

  • Launching a new immersive learning center (APEX), and redesigning curriculum to include more immersive experiences
  • Re-introducing the University’s magazine
  • Pioneering a new online alumni community (Alumni Connect)
  • A redesigned Admissions Welcome Center in Main Building for our admissions and enrollment teams (set to open in the new academic year)

William Peace University remains grateful for the continuous support from partners like First Citizens Bank as it sends into the world graduates who are not only ready to take on the challenges of today but who will also be able to cultivate great opportunities for tomorrow. The University continues to seek strategic partners to support other areas of the Welcome Center and the Believe in Peace Strategic Plan.
