Michael Wolf Named to 2014-15 Academic All-District Team

William Peace University is proud to announce that Michael Wolf , a senior point guard for the WPU Men’s Basketball Team, has been selected to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District ® Men’s Basketball District 5 Team. The teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Nominees must have been a starter or an important reserve for his/her team, while maintaining at least a 3.3 GPA or higher in the classroom. Wolf, a native of Chapel Hill, will also advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

“I’m lucky to be here at such a great school and to be a part of a special group of guys.”

Wolf currently holds a 4.0 GPA and majors in Political Science.  He is currently ranked first in the USA South and seventh in the country for assist to turnover ratio (3.5), helping guide the third-year Pacers program to second place in the latest conference standings.  Wolf is WPU’s all-time leader in several categories (assists, assist/TO ratio, games played and started, and steals), and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player during the 2013-14 season.  Wolf was also the first-ever male recipient of the Bierce Outstanding Athlete Award and Scholar-Athlete Award last year. He was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship team last season, and has also earned Academic All-Conference honors each of his first two years at Peace.

“It’s definitely a great honor to be selected to the team,” Wolf said. “I’m lucky to be here at such a great school and to be a part of a special group of guys. Everyone, including the coaching staff, is so supportive of each other that it’s always pretty cool when we can accomplish new things.”

“Mike sets a tremendous example for the rest of our team, and the campus at large, as to what it means to be a true student athlete,” said Claude Shields, Head Men’s Basketball Coach. “We are extremely proud of his work in the classroom and on the court.”

“We’re so proud of Michael for this accomplishment and his hard work. He is a great role model for our current and prospective students,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., President of William Peace University. “We know that his success on the court and in the classroom will continue after graduating.”
