WPU Announces 98% Employment/Further Education for 2017 Graduates.

A new year means new statistics. WPU proudly reports that 98% of its 2017 graduates have either gained employment or continued their education – this marks the second year in a row the University has achieved such a high placement. Data is based on a University questionnaire answered by 68% of 2017 graduates, collected 12 months following graduation.

Of the surveyed graduates, employers listed included the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Epic Games, SeaWorld, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Walt Disney Company, and Wake County Public Schools. Among the post undergraduate institutions listed were Alabama A&M University, Concordia University Irvine, Liberty University, North Carolina State University, Salus University, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Wilmington, University of Southern California.

“Our WPU graduates continue to be competitive in the workforce with the combination of their liberal arts education and required internship component.”

Shelly Hoover-Plonk, Director of Career Services

“Our WPU graduates continue to be competitive in the workforce with the combination of their liberal arts education and required internship component,” Hoover-Plonk said. “All WPU graduates complete two required professional development courses that can be taken as early as their junior year. As we continue to build partnerships with employers, we are hearing from them that they want graduates with multiple work experiences and this includes an internship. The liberal arts education and internship experience provides students with the opportunity to advance their speaking, writing and analytical abilities which are critical for today’s workforce.”

WPU students take on exciting internships across the Raleigh area and beyond. Fall 2018 internships included the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., the North Carolina Court of Appeals, Fidelity Investments, both the Raleigh and Durham Police Departments, Marbles Kids’ Museum, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Alexander YMCA, and the Cary Behavioral Health–just to name a few.

All WPU students are required to complete an academic internship along with learning other professional development courses which require a mock interview, etiquette dinner and attending networking events.

Since 2014, more than 96% of graduates have gained employment or continued their education within one year of graduating. The University began collecting employment/further education data in 2000, and each year since then at least a 90% of WPU graduates either continued their education or gained employment.
