August 18, 2021

As classes begin this week, William Peace University (WPU) launches two new bachelor degree programs: Interactive Design and ESports and Gaming Administration, complementing the 30+ other majors offered by WPU.

“These programs tie in well with our Believe In Peace Strategic Plan,” said President Brian Ralph. “Interactive Design and ESports will add to our distinctive identity.”

Interactive Design takes a creative, technological, and experiential approach when solving complex design problems. The new program is particularly relevant as IxD and UX are becoming increasingly important with Interactive designers/UX designers is listed as one of the Best Jobs in America by CNN Money.

WPU has also invested in a brand new ESports lab, which is currently under construction and plans to open early this Fall. “ESports and Gaming Administration is a perfect fit for Raleigh and for WPU,” stated Ralph. The global Esports industry is expected to grow at a rate of 400% in the next seven years, to $4.28 billion, according to Data Bridge Market Research. As an emerging Esports gaming community, Raleigh is ranked by Forbes as the second hottest area in the United States for tech jobs.

“Raleigh is home to numerous video game and ESports companies along with ESport events, and we can provide graduates with the skills these companies hunger for,” according to Department Chair of Art, Communications and Simulation and Game Design, Professor Roger Christman. Both this degree and Interactive Design complement the current major of Simulation and Game Design, which WPU has offered for the past eight years.

Students in both degree programs will experience an immersive approach to learning, consistent with WPU’s philosophy of learning utilized across all degree programs. This approach allows students to learn by doing and helps ensure students are career-ready upon graduation.
