#PeopleOfPeace: Ruth Ruppe, LPN, Named Finalist for Hearts of Healthcare Award

May 31, 2018

William Peace University Nurse, Ruth Ruppe, LPN, was recently named a finalist for the Hearts of Healthcare Award, which recognizes a local nurse who makes a difference in someone’s life or has an impact on the community. Twenty finalists, including Ruppe, were named to the award list, which was presented by the News & Observer, The Herald-Sun and Triangle Today.

“Ruth is the warm and inviting face everyone loves to see when they walk into the Wellness Center. Even if a student is feeling their very worst, Ruth has a magic way of making them smile.”

Ruth attended a luncheon in March, where she was recognized and able to meet the other 19 finalists. In all, 200 people were nominated in the Triangle. The event was sponsored by Duke Health, WakeMed, UNC Health, NC Board of Nurses, North Carolina Nurses Association, Aloft, Cambridge Village, Whole Foods Market and Gingham & Posh. During the luncheon, the 2018 winner, Donna Lane, was announced by the North Carolina Nurses Association.

“Being nominated for the Hearts of Healthcare truly was the greatest honor I have received in my 40 years as a Nurse,” said Ruppe. “The reason it was so meaningful is because I was recognized for making a difference, and that is what I strive to do here at Peace.”

What her nominator had to say

WPU staff member, Ruth Ruppe.“Ruth is our nurse at William Peace University. She is an absolute joy to work with as she brings love and comfort to every student who walks through our doors. She consistently has a smile on her face and cares deeply for the wellness of our students. Ruth is innovative and regularly brings new ideas to promote health and wellness on our campus. This year, Ruth took charge of applying for grant monies to host a health fair, which is something we have never done in the past. Ruth recognized a need for health promotion amongst our campus community and she diligently worked to receive the grant.”

“Ruth is the warm and inviting face everyone loves to see when they walk into the Wellness Center. Even if a student is feeling their very worst, Ruth has a magic way of making them smile. She forms a true empathetic connection with every patient she treats, and her deep care for the students at William Peace University is evident in all she does. She is hard-working, adaptable and communicates with ease. She treats her patients with admirable compassion and spreads positive energy wherever she goes. Nurse Ruth has made a significant impact in the WPU Community. She is a gift to all who know her.”
