#PrepareAtPeace: WPU Student, Grace Robinson, Selected For Sigma Beta Delta Leadership Academy

Oct 4, 2017

It’s all business for WPU student, Grace Robinson, as she heads to Arkansas this week for the Sigma Beta Delta Leadership Academy (SBD). Robinson was one of 20 students selected nationwide to attend the event. The Academy will focus primarily on exposing exceptional business students to executive leaders from various companies across a wide variety of industries. It’s an impressive and unique opportunity for Robinson, who is a charter member of the WPU Sigma Beta Delta chapter, an international honor society that the University joined in the spring of 2017.

“We will work together on developing our leadership and group skills and talk with successful leaders in various business industries to get first-hand advice.”

“We will work together on developing our leadership and group skills and talk with successful leaders in various business industries to get first-hand advice,” Robinson said.

Since its creation more than 20 years ago, Sigma Beta Delta has chartered more than 450 university chapters, which means that being selected for the Leadership Academy is no small feat and one that requires faculty nomination.

As a double major, studying Business and Communication, Robinson was honored to join SBD and is excited to be a part of university history. She looks forward to what the honor society will do for the Business programs at WPU, which she excels in. The society was established in 1994 to honor students of business, management, and administration who have made great personal and professional strides in their lives and studies – all qualities that Robinson reflects.

“To join, members must be recommended by faculty,” Robinson said. “I was thrilled when I got inducted and extremely honored to be recognized for my hard work, along with my peers.”

Robinson’s interest in business can be traced back to her parents who both work in real estate. She believes that this exposed her to the business world at a young age and drew her to the idea of one day owning her own business.

It’s Robinson’s work ethic and dedication to her studies that earned her a recommendation for not only Sigma Beta Delta, but also for the Leadership Academy – a challenge she feels prepared to take on because of her education here at WPU.

“The hands-on experience has proven to be incredibly valuable and the professors [at WPU] really care.”

“The business program here is great. I can’t say enough good things,” Robinson said. “The hands-on experience has proven to be incredibly valuable and the professors [at WPU] really care.”

Robinson, who transferred from a larger institution, believes that smaller classrooms allow for one-on-one attention, and that the professors here at WPU go the extra mile to see students succeed.

“Grace demonstrates leadership, not only in her academic life but also professionally and in the Raleigh community,” said Heidi Gailor, Associate Professor of Business Administration. “She will be a great addition to the Leadership Academy, and it’s an honor to have Grace in the Business Administration program.”
