Commencement Day FAQs

What time does Main Lawn open?

Main Lawn will open at 7 a.m. for the 9:30 ceremony.

Will refreshments be provided?

Complimentary water will be available in various locations around the Lawn.

Where do graduating students line up for the processional?

Graduates should assemble in ironed regalia (cap and gown, tassel, and hood) at 8:30 a.m. in Main Parking Lot.

Does the University make accommodations for guests with disabilities?

Yes. Special Needs parking spaces will be available in the 15 East Peace street Main parking lot. Please contact the Office of Disability Services for these special requests:

Where am I allowed to park on campus on Commencement Day?

On-Campus parking will be limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.  Most guests will be directed to City of Raleigh parking lots on South Salisbury Street.  Parking in Seaboard Station is prohibited.

How long is the Commencement ceremony?

Commencement will last about 75 minutes. 

Will there be a professional photographer?

A professional from Photo Specialties will photograph each graduate as he or she crosses the stage during commencement. Photo Specialties will send free color proofs and ordering instructions to each graduate’s email and permanent mailing address.  Please note that it could take 6 – 8 weeks to receive your proofs from Photo Specialists. If graduates do not receive this link or need additional information about ordering photos, they should contact Photo Specialties at or 919.967.9576.

Yes, but please be mindful of other families taking photos.

Will there be a live stream of Commencement?

For guests who are unable to attend Commencement, you can view WPU’s live stream, which will be available through your desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile device. Links and additional information to follow.
