William Peace University Announces Five New Members to Board of Trustees

RALEIGH (June 30, 2021) — William Peace University (WPU) announces the addition of five new members to its board of trustees with their terms starting July 1, 2021, bringing the total number of board members up to 25. “As I assume the chair role this year, I could not be more pleased to welcome a talented and diverse class of trustees to our Board as we all work to advance the mission of the University,” said Chair of the Board Billie Redmond. Dr. Brian Ralph, President of the University added: “We are thrilled with the quality of new members joining an already distinguished board, and are confident they will provide invaluable support and input to our growth and immersive learning strategies,” he said.

New Members include: Dr. Elena Ashburn, Principal of Broughton Magnet High School
Principal since 2017, Dr. Ashburn leads the Leadership Team and school community in implementation of the Broughton Five Year Strategic Plan. The team has affected meaningful change, achieving the highest student graduation rate in Broughton’s history, increasing 9th grade promotion rate by nearly 50%, and improving teacher retention to its highest rate, with an improvement of nearly 70%. Dr. Ashburn earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018 and was awarded the Michael Priddy Family Leadership Scholarship & Award for aspiring superintendents from the UNC School of Education the same year. In 2020, Dr. Ashburn was named the WCPSS Principal of the Year, the North Carolina North Central Region Principal of the Year, and most recently was named the 2021 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year.

Kacie Fore, Senior Transmission Engagement Specialist for Duke Energy Kacie Fore has the responsibility of interacting proactively with the public on behalf of Duke Energy for transmission line and substation projects from project development through completion. She serves on the board of Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines and is the past Chair of the Raleigh Chamber Young Professionals Network. She is a member of the Junior League of Raleigh, Alpha Kappa Alpha

Sorority, Inc. and is a 2016 Triangle Business Journal 40 under 40 winner.

Jennings Glenn, Chief Financial Officer with Kane Realty
Jennings joined the Kane Realty organization in 2005 and serves as its Chief Financial Officer. Prior to Kane, Jennings has also held senior roles at Southern Industrial Constructors, Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP, both in Raleigh, and Blackman & Sloop CPA’s P.A. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His community involvement includes serving as chair of the StepUP Raleigh Board of Directors, chair of the Aldert Root School Foundation Board of Directors, and chair of the Loaves & Fishes Board of Directors. He is a member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors. He served as a Deacon and is currently an Elder at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was named one of the Triangle Business Journal’s Forty Under Forty for 2010 and was recently awarded 2015 Father of the Year by The Father’s Day Council in association with the American Diabetes Association.

Kimberley S. Kitchings, Senior Vice President, Consumer Marketing for Cotton Incorporated
Kim Kitchings is the Senior Vice President of Consumer Marketing at Cotton Incorporated. Kim leads consumer and trade advertising, public relations, corporate strategy, global market insights, and strategic alliances. Kim, an alumna of the University, joined Cotton Incorporated in 1996 as manager of market research and prior to her current position she was Vice President of Corporate Strategy & Program Metrics. Over her 20 year career in the cotton industry, Kim has been instrumental in strategic assessments of global consumer demand and market evaluations for cotton. She is a frequent presenter at industry conferences on innovation, consumer insights and marketing.

Jacqueline Whittenburg, Co-founder and Executive Director of The Dereck Whittenburg Foundation for Education
A Raleigh, NC native, Jacqueline Whittenburg brings more than 30 years of creativity and innovation to her career as an educator and biologist. Her background reflects an impressive history in educating students in public schools around Northern Virginia and Westchester County, New York. As an educator, Jacqueline worked tirelessly to expose students to the world of science aiming to make a contribution to saving lives and advocating for a healthier society. She now leads the Dereck Whittenburg Foundation whose mission is to “…extend the hands of financial assistance to deserving college students that find themselves facing the hindrance of finance as the barrier to their completion of college degrees. The mantra of The Foundation is “Dream. Believe. Work. Now Finish!” She is a member of Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
