WPU Announces 2020 Outstanding Faculty Awards

Jul 8, 2020

William Peace University is proud to recognize outstanding faculty members as we presented this year’s Outstanding Advisor Awards and McCormick Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Brian Ralph, WPU President, announced the awards during a Zoom town hall meeting with faculty and staff.

Outstanding Advisor Awards

Each year, our students are surveyed about their experiences with advising at the University. As part of the survey, they have the option to  nominate their advisor for the Outstanding Advisor Award, and share thoughts on why their advisor is deserving. 124 students chose to nominate their advisor for this award.

The first recipient of this award is Dr. Vinnie Melomo, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Chair of the Culture, History, and Politics department. Advisees described Dr. Melomo as “full of life experience and knowledge to help guide advisees into the professional world” during the nomination process.

The second recipient of this award is Dr. Heidi Gailor, Associate Professor of Business Administration and Honors Program Coordinator. Advisees nominated Dr. Gailor writing she “not only cares about what class that I am taking for the upcoming semester, but she also cares about my future and well-being. She has been an awesome advisor and she is reliable, understanding, and resourceful. She is always there greeting you with a smile and some Starbursts!”

Congratulations to Dr. Vinnie Melomo and Dr. Heidi Gailor for their excellence in advising and contributing to WPU’s history of student success.

McCormick Distinguished Teaching Award

The purpose of this annual award, established in 1988 with a gift from Dr. and Mrs. Fred C. McCormick, is to recognize a member of the William Peace University faculty who exemplifies the characteristics of the master teacher and scholar, demonstrates concern for the students’ intellectual and spiritual development, and personifies the qualities inherent in the University’s history. Full-time faculty members with at least three years of service at WPU are eligible for nomination. The Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for administering this award.

The annual recipient of the award is recognized at Commencement, receives a monetary award and is invited to give a presentation during the following year, usually at Convocation.

The recipient of this year’s award is Robin Vincent, Assistant Professor of Education and Field Placement Coordinator.

“Mrs. Vincent embodies the true role of an educator by caring deeply about all of her students’ academic and personal well-being,” said one of her students.

Congratulations Robin Vincent on being the 2020 recipient of this coveted award that showcases our faculty and staff’s priority of putting students first in efforts to make sure students achieve success at WPU.
