WPU Announces 2024 Outstanding Faculty Awards

May 7, 2024

William Peace University is proud to recognize outstanding faculty members as we present this year’s Outstanding Advisor Awards, the McCormick Distinguished Teaching Award, and the Part-Time Faculty Award.

Dr. Brian Ralph, WPU President, announced the award winners recently during a recent ceremony on campus.

Alumni Distinguished Advising Award

The Alumni Distinguished Advising Awards are given each year to two faculty advisors who demonstrate excellence in academic advising, support of advising program goals, and commitment to improving advising effectiveness.

The two recipients this year are Dr. Jennifer Blush, Assistant Professor of Psychology, and Dr. Katie Otis, Assistant Professor of History.

Jennifer Blush

Blush joined the WPU faculty in 2019. Blush is recognized for her genuine commitment to her advisees, highlighted by the personalized support she provides to them.

Katie Otis

Otis, also the History program director, joined the WPU faculty as a part-time faculty member in 2015. She became a full-time faculty in 2016.

Otis is recognized for her commitment to her advisees and for the hands-on support she provides to help them achieve their goals.

McCormick Distinguished Teaching Award

The McCormick Distinguished Teaching Award recognizes a full-time faculty member with the characteristics of a master teacher and scholar, a concern for the development of students, and a commitment to education. Nominations are made by students, faculty, and staff. In consultation with past recipients, the Office of Academic Affairs selects the yearly recipient.

Erica Jastrow

This year’s recipient is Erica Jastrow, Ed.D., Assistant Professor of Nursing and Nursing Department Chair.

Jastrow joined the WPU faculty in 2020. One student said, “I want to nominate this instructor for her dedication and passion for teaching, and inspiring students to perform their best.”

Part-Time Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award

The Part-Time Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, initiated in 2021, recognizes one part-time faculty member in our Traditional Undergraduate program and one in the School of Professional Studies. William Peace University benefits from the positive contributions of many part-time faculty members dedicated to outstanding teaching, including classroom innovation, consistent commitment to students and their success, and contributions to the academic department or University. The award recipients must have taught at William Peace University for at least three semesters.

The SPS recipient this year is A. Whitney Shea, a Psychology instructor. Shea has taught at WPU since 2011 when the program was first offered in the School of Professional Studies.

A. Whitney Shea

“Ms. Shea is supportive of her students and pushes them to reach their full potential,” said Dr. Lori McClaren, Executive Director of the School of Professional Studies. “She is dedicated to making sure her students’ online experiences are engaging and impactful.”

The TUG recipient this year is Dr. Mary Glover, a Biology instructor, who has taught at WPU since the fall of 2022.

Faculty Award winner Dr. Mary Glover.

“Dr. Glover incorporates creative assignments to engage her students, utilizes diverse active learning strategies, and provides extensive support to her students,” said Dr. Lisa Bonner, Department Chair of Science and Mathematics.
